Business Improvement Grant – Northern Territory

Funding for business improvements.

All shopfront Territory businesses will be eligible to receive one time grants of up to $10,000 to complete permanent physical improvements to their premises. Work can include buying new equipment, new shop outfits or physical changes to attract customers.

The Business Improvement Grant program will provide one off payments of up to $10,000 for permanent physical improvement works. Works can include  buying new equipment, new shop outfits or physical changes to attract customers. Works must be completed by a Northern Territory business not related to the grant recipient. Works can begin once approval has been given and voucher issued. Works must be complete within 6 months of the voucher issue date or 30 April 2021, which ever comes first. For works over $10,000 the NT Government will match dollar for dollar funding up to $20,000.

Eligibility 

Businesses can apply that:

  • have a valid legal entity and holds a valid Australian business number (ABN) from the date the program was announced (18 March 2020)
  • is not an excluded recipient – refer to the terms and conditions
  • have its principal place of doing business physically located in the Northern Territory (NT)
  • services its customers or clientele from a shopfront premises
  • offers goods and / or services to the public
  • was offering its services wholly or substantially in the NT for at least one month at the time of applying for a grant.

Grant Uses

You can use the grant to purchase goods and services to make permanent physical improvements to a business (land and / or building) that help its operations and customer experience.

This could include:

  • buying new equipment
  • new shop fit outs
  • physical changes to attract customers.

Eligible works must:

  • include a labour component and
  • be carried out by an eligible business that is not related to the grant recipient.

Inverter upgrades, batteries and other electrical work that support energy efficiency are eligible works, as well as solar hot water installation.

Excluded works include:

  • security improvement works as defined under Biz Secure and Alcohol Secure programs
  • buying solar photovoltaic (PV) panels or installing solar panels – eg rooftop solar
  • works that are to be carried out by the grant recipient on a ‘do-it-yourself’ basis or
  • works carried out by a business related to the grant recipient.

You must not use a voucher with any voucher or other benefit granted under any other program (whether an Australian Government or NT Government program) to pay for the same works.

Timing

Applications opened from 9am Monday 13 April 2020.

Applications are now closed as the estimated value of applications has exceeded the allocated funding.

Works must be completed within 6 months of the date of issue of the voucher or 30 April 2021, whichever is sooner.
