The government has announced a free childcare program for working parents to help Child Care centres to remain open and be available to any parent who needs to be at work.

This will be a new model where the Child Care centres will be reimbursed for the gap payment required from parents essentially making child care free for any parent. This new model will take effect Sunday 5 April night and payments will be backdated to 23 March.

To be eligible for this program, centres need to remain open and continue to offer childcare. This program along with the JobKeeper payment will ensure that centres are able to do so. Centres will also have a priority of care and they have been provided with a list.

Free Childcare for everybody

Childcare will no longer be means-tested and child care centres will claim fees directly from the government. For those parents that need to go to work, their usual child care centre will be encouraged to remain open with the support from the government. For those parents that have withdrawn their children but are still in need of child care are encouraged to re-engage.

Free Child Care Program timings

The child care program will take effect Sunday night (5 April 2020) and payments will be backdated to 23 March 2020 and will end 12 July 2020.
